Kano Leadership, Enlightenment and Advocacy for Development Initiative – LEADS has inaugurated its local chapters to improve the understanding and roles of stakeholders in the development of their Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The 7 inaugurated Chapters are Bichi, Dala, Nassarawa, Gwale, Dambatta, Kano Municipal and Fagge LGAs.

The structure of the chapters has coordinators and pillars supporting the activities of the chapter for each LGA and anchors for every ward. And each LGA has a council focusing on the 6 thematic areas (health, education, infrastructure and environment, economy, law governance and security) of Kano LEADS.

The broad objective is to sensitize and mobilize grass roots which form the bulk of the population and take interest in issues of growth and development.

Bearing in the mind the importance of the LGA Chapters and Committees, the term of reference to guide their conduct includes but not limited to, co-opt and ginger mass population at LGA level towards achieving the goals of LEADS, identify critical areas of concern that are responsible for LGA regression, develop interest in LGA budgetary process, projects and programs.

Also, to collect data on community needs assessments, to ensure a platform that would sustainably focus on recurring issues of development while creating synergy between the local government branch and the Kano State LEADS amongst others.

Dan Kani said the society is decomposing, the economy of the state is bad, security is challenging and everything is at its bottom. “These are reasons why the Kano LEADS felt people should come out, work together and save Kano”. A movement to save, she added.

She said “We want to get Kano out of the quagmire it finds itself and see how it gets back to the path of development”.

Dan Kani further explained that Kano LEAD is divided into in 6 clusters economy, law governance and security, health, education, social cluster, infrastructure and environment with a view of promoting rapid development through concerted efforts from people of conscious that are agitated with what is happening in the society.

“When people of different disciplines put their strength together in each and every one of the clusters, it is a step towards tackling poverty and other social vices, she added.

For instance, a policeman, solider or entrepreneur from Kano who is interested in Kanos’ security or development would engage with each of the clusters on what is happening and proffer solutions on how to get out of it.
