The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday 30th September, 2020 has set aside a judgment which validated the powers of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu to recruit constables for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Court of Appeal led by Justice Olabisi Ige unanimously held the IGP lacked the power to recruit constables for the Police Force and declared the recruitment of the 10,000 constables the IGP had carried out in 2019 as null and void.
The Police Service Commission had in September 2019, instituted the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1124/2019, to stop the IGP’s recruitment process, asking the Federal High Court judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, to nullify the process already commenced by the NPF and the IGP.
