Khadijat Saidu, Birnin Kebbi
Following the devastation caused by the floods to farmlands, crops and communities that were rendered homeless by the floods in Kebbi. Officials and volunteers of Medicaid Cancer Foundation have set the pace among NGOs by reaching out to the victims of flood with relief assistance.
Wabbaku community in Birnin Kebbi local government area where the entire village was submerged by flood, was the first point of call to distribute food,water,drinks and clothing to the victims.
The village head, Hakimi Maisaje Wabbaku told the Medicaid team that people in the village were in dire need of assistance as their houses have collapsed and even the Well which serve as their source of drinking water was destroyed and contaminated by the flood.
An official from Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Hajiya Hadiza Kola advised them to boil their water before drinking.
She used the opportunity to call on all civil societies to rally together and get assistance for the people mainly in Jega, Argungu and Gwandu.
She averred “this is a humanitarian disaster and government cannot be left to bear the burden alone.”
The need for urgent environmental clean up to reduce water borne diseases like cholera, malaria and typhoid was reiterated.
