Monthly Sanitation Exercise Resumes in Kano

The State Commissioner for Environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso in a meeting with stakeholders, for the preparation of end of the month sanitation exercise, called on citizens to utilize the monthly sanitation period to clean their Environment and clear drainage, especially at this rainy season in order to avert the occurrence of flooding in their areas and the state in general.

In a statement signed by Abbas Habeeb Abbas, Chief Public Relation Officer, Ministry of Environment, the Commissioner stated that, the exercise has been down for some months due to Covid-19 pandemic lock-down which affected all sector of economy globally.

The Commissioner added that, the Ministry did not stay idle during the period, but engaged in other activities, such as fumigation and decontamination of public places with large gatherings like Hospitals, Schools, Motor Parks, Markets, Mosques and Churches, so as to curb the spread of the dreaded corona-virus disease.

Other activities include the distribution of face masks, soaps, hand sanitizers’ and hand washing facilities were donated and undertaken freely by the state government.

“Monthly sanitation is really needed now the most, especially at this trying moment of Covid-19 Pandemic, and the rainy season period, in order to curb the spread of the disease and prevent the occurrence of flooding and to provide healthy and cleaner environment”, Dr Getso stated.

He then advised people to comply with the restriction of movement order from 7:00 to 10:00 am Saturday, 29 August, 2020 to clean their environment.
