The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MoWASD) has reiterated its commitment to implement policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of women and children in the State.
The Permanent Secretary (PS) MoWASD Alhaji Auwalu Umar Sanda made this known at the end of the 2 days review workshop on Situation Analysis of Children in the State organized by the Ministry of Planning and Budget (MoPB) in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Kano field office held in Zaria.
Alhaji Uwar as the custodians of women and children issues, the Ministry has established a counseling Center who have psycho- social issues are admitted and before the end of the year, the Ministry in collaboration with Kano State Government will be establishing a shelter for children and women who are trafficked and homeless will be given skills and later united with their families.
Speaking earlier, the PS MOPB at the end of the meeting there was a consensus that the consultant should go back and review his data to capture the current reality in the state.
He said, with the situation review there is hope that the situation of children including child labour will reduce, child abuse especially rape will be addressed by the policy, especially during implementation.
The PS emphasized that the state government is doing its best to eradicate the problems.
Responding on behalf of participants, the village head of Gama, Malan Rabiu Muhd Isiyaku said the analysis came at the time when it will be beneficial to them first as parents and at community level because of the situation their children found themselves.
He said it will pave a way for government to intervene in terms of providing children in the state with necessary amenities including education, health, nutrition among others
