In its maiden congress, the Kano State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) urged government to take the issue of sanitation seriously.
This and other issues were contained in a communique jointly signed by Bilkisu Ado Zango and Wasila Ladan, NAWOJ Chairperson and Secretary respectively.
According to the Communique, diseases do not know borders; it is very important for the state government and the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMSAB) to look in to the situation of sanitation in the state especially now that rains are here.
A clean environment will help to reduce the spread of Malaria, Cholera, and flood.
While commending government for taken appropriate measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, it expressed with dismay the rising cases of people whose rights are being abused or violated by their loved ones in the state.
NAWOJ therefore called for stiffer measures to curtail the incessant cases of rape, domestic violence and drug abuse.
