The Kano field office of United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has plans to bring succour to the people of Kano state through strategic interventions of construction of 12 motorized boreholes in 12 Primary Health Centres with articulation to neighbouring communities in Kano metropolis; a press statement signed by Uba Abdullahi, Press Secretary, Cabinet Office, Kano, said.
According to the statement, UNICEF would also rehabilitate 18 boreholes in communities as well as installations of hand washing facilities in public places as presented by the WASH Manager of UNICEF Kano Field Office, Mr Rafid Salih, who emphasized that Kano field office place high premium on public awareness and sensitization as primary tool for behavioral and attitudinal changes in the society.
At the moment UNICEF had distributed more than 1million soap bars to 95 Primary Health Centres and communities and distributed of awareness materials in addition to series of Radio Programs, the statement added.
In his opening remarks and declaring the coordination meeting open, the Secretary to the Kano state Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji said going by the track record of UNICEF interventions in Kano, it had become highly imperative for the state government to support the UNICEF Programs and assured that Kano State government is solidly in their support at all the times.
He later declared the coordination meeting open and urged the participants to use what they learnt for the overall development of Kano State, Alhaji Usman Alhaji similarly called on UNICEF partners to always be up and doing at all the times in bringing development to the people at communities’ levels.
It concluded that participants at the event include Hon Commissioners of Ministry of Information, Environment, Health, Education, Water Resources, Local Government and Planning and Budget among others.
