Kebbi Inaugurates Committee on Supply and Sales of Fertilizer for 2020 Wet Season Farming

Kebbi State Government says, it has large quantity of fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides in stock as well as and other agricultural input for distribution to farmers this wet cultivation season.


The​ Chief of Staff Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu Jarman Kabi disclosed this, ​ ​ while inaugurating a Seven Member Committee on supply, distribution and sales of fertilizer for 2020 wet season farming, chaired by former Permanent Secretary Agriculture, Alhaji Abubakar Bello.

The Chief of Staff represented Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said the Sovereign Welfare Fund has indicated intention to assist the state with one thousand five hundred metric tons of fertilizer to be acquired from an indigenous company Albarka Fertilizer.

He gave an assurance that, the state government would provide every farmer with required quantity of fertilizer, warning that it was illegal for anybody to take fertilizer outside the state or engage in middle practices. The cost of each bag has been pegged at five thousand, five hundred naira only. ​ 

The committee’s terms of reference are to identify the quantity of fertilizer supplied to Kebbi state, quantity of fertilizer sales and remittance, quantity in stock, as well as observe the cash book.

Members of the committee are Alhaji Abubakar Bello Bunza, Alaramma Atiku Warrah, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Argungu, Alhaji Danladi Jandutsi, Alhaji Muhammad Zaure Sakaba while Barrister Abubakar Zaki Lonzon who is the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice will serve as Secretary of the committee.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Committee Alhaji Abubakar Bello thanked the state government for giving them an opportunity to serve the state in improving agricultural production.

The committee has one week within which to submit its report to the government.
